organizations to her name that are engaged in helping the unfortunate
like "Oprah's Angel Network" which has build homes in four states to
help the victims of hurricane Katrina.

television show. She's also a media mogul, Academy award nominated
actress and one of the most influential women of all time. Oprah
Winfrey, has inspired and encouraged millions of people around the
world. She was born to be a Philanthropist.

Born on 29 January, 1954, in rural Mississippi to
unmarried parents, she spent the first six years of her life with her
grandmother who taught her to read and took her to church and then was
sent to stay with her father, a barber by profession. At 13 she
received a scholarship to attend Nicolet High School and graduated from
Tennessee State University with Communication. At 17, she won the Miss
Black Tennessee Beauty Pageant and secured a pat-time job at WVOL, a
local black radio station.
Her show, WLS-TV overtook "Donahue" to become the
highest rated talk show, months after she joined the show. It was
renamed "The Oprah Winfrey Show" and broadcast nationally beginning
September 8,1986. Apart from hosting various television shows, has
co-founded the women's cable television network "Oxygen" and also heads
a production company called "Harpo". Her role as "Sofia" the distraught
housewife In Spielberg's "The Colour Purple" won her an Academy award
nomination for Best Supporting Actress. She has also produced and
starred in "Beloved" and voiced for "Charlotte's Web" and "Bee Movie".
She has two magazines to her credit. Namely, "O, The Oprah Magazine"
and "O at home".She endorsed presidential candidate Barack Obama in the
2008 presidential election.

Apart from quality time, Oprah invested as much as $40
million for launching the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy For Girls
which is situated near Johannesburg in South Africa. The school was
inaugurated in the 2007, January. Oprah Winfrey
received much appreciation for working towards such a noble cause.
